The group started with Chapter One, located just outside Bromley, in 1996, which had one simple goal "to provide excellent food, excellent service and outstanding value in distinctly stylish, comfortable and relaxed surroundings."

Due to the success of Chapter One, Chapter Two was opened in Blackheath Village in 1998. Both restaurants are multi award-winning and in 2005 Chapters Events was formed, a specialist outside division.
